A recap of recent events and opportunities for future philanthropy

November CharityBash Live Auction

On Thursday, Nov. 10, 350 young and fabulous Austinites packed into KLRU’s Legendary Austin City Limits (ACL) Studio for the Third Annual CharityBash Live Auction. The evening kicked off with mingling, food by Fleming’s, J. BLACK’S Feel Good Lounge, Austin Catering and Cornucopia and an open bar featuring Bombay Sapphire and Grey Goose cocktails.

Co-hosts Mandy Lauderdale and Brett Barnes then drew the crowd of anxious bidders to their seats and reminded everyone of the purpose of the evening (besides having fun, of course): to raise money for the two worthy nonprofits, CASA of Travis County and LifeWorks.

Then it was time for the real fun to begin.

With DJ Johnny Bravvo playing the hottest songs, 20 local bachelors and bachelorettes strutted their stuff on the runway, vying for bids on their one-of-a-kind date packages. These packages were full of spa treatments, sporting event and concert tickets, exclusive meals and activities, destination getaways and many more treats.

The bachelors and bachelorettes all revved up the crowd in their own entertaining ways, resulting in several bidding wars. Many attendees said they felt inspired after hearing from CASA and LifeWorks, and they showed it by reaching deep into their pockets and donating a total of $85,000.

A heartfelt thank-you goes out to the MFI Foundation, food and drink sponsors, Jonathan Garza Photography, Solange Phillips Photography, LUPED MEDIA, the staff at KLRU’s Legendary ACL Studio and everyone who attended the live auction. With your generous help, so many at-risk and underprivileged youth will be given the advocates, skills and tools necessary for successful and happy futures.

December CharityLadies

The second CharityLadies event was held on the evening of Dec. 7 at the 55th Floor Austonian Club. The event brought together 150 women who enjoyed a host of beauty, body and wellness vendors, including Pure Barre, Blo Blow Dry Bar, arkFIT, Radiant Cosmetics, Blink Beauty, Green Alley Salon, Skin Spa Austin Lounge, Juice Plus+, Esty Skin Studio, My Texas Smile, Eye of the Thaiger-Mobile Personal Training, Elements Laser Spa, milk + honey Spa, PURE Bikram and Mel’s Meals.

This event was the perfect treat for the girl who loves getting pampered. Drinks by Bacardi, sweet treats by L’s Cupcake Delivery and the launch of Austin Beauty Guide by entrepreneur Meredith Davis left these ladies feeling energized.

Entry to the event required a donation of toiletries to benefit Saint Louise House, an Austin nonprofit that provides deeply affordable housing and services to homeless mothers and their children.

In the Saint Louise House apartment-like homes, these women have the support they need to continue their work or school endeavors while raising their children in a safe environment. The donations given at CharityLadies will provide these families with basic necessities so they can focus on getting back on their feet.

EVENTS

January CharityVolunteers

CharityVolunteers is one of Citizen Generation’s newest programs, bringing together groups of Austinites for hands-on service to make an immediate difference in the community.

The next CharityVolunteers gathering will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Event participants can go online to CitizenGeneration.org to view details about each of the four volunteer sites and purchase a ticket to the site that best matches their interests.

Volunteer sites include Foundation for the Homeless, an organization that helps keep families sheltered during their transition into self-sufficiency; Manos de Cristo, a nonprofit that helps low-income individuals through its dental clinic, education and food and clothing programs; the Seedling Foundation, a program that helps Austin area schools through mentoring and beautification; and Special Olympics Texas, the well-known organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Each of these nonprofits is making great strides to help empower and uplift our Austin peers, and CharityVolunteers gives you the chance to be a part of it. This event has a participant cap, so purchase your ticket today.
