Citizen Generation is centered on the belief that in order to make our city the best place to live, play and work, all inpiduals should be active in the betterment of the community.
Through Citizen Generation’s programs, CharityBash, CharityLadies, CharityLunch and CharityVolunteers, the Austin-based organization gives multiple opportunities for inpiduals to do just that.
These innovative programs are turning philanthropy into an experience during which participants can have fun while making a difference. Learn here about Citizen Generation’s recent and upcoming events and how to get involved today.
Inaugural CharityVolunteers Day Success
On July 30, 75 Austinites came out to participate in the first CharityVolunteers Day. Each participant chose one of five places to volunteer: the Austin Parks Foundation, Austin Pets Alive!, LifeWorks, SafePlace and the Sustainable Food Center.
The variety of volunteer sites allowed participants to choose an area that interested them, from working with animals to helping a community garden take root. The $20 participation fee provided volunteers with a T-shirt, breakfast, drinks and a drink ticket for the cool-down get-together at Doc’s.
At the cool-down, the participants shared stories about their mornings, and many of the volunteers had conversations about the organizations they worked with and their excitement to volunteer again.
CharityLadies Empowers Women
Citizen Generation’s first CharityLadies gathering was held at the intimate space of the 360 Condos Club Room. In this fashion, the 55 personally invited ladies were able to mingle, network and focus on two nonprofit beneficiaries and the gathering’s featured local entrepreneur, Jordan Martin of Dekla.
Attendees were required to bring a gently used clothing donation for Dress for Success and/or Prom Rack.
Martin captivated the audience, as the talented 25-year-old showcased her spring and fall clothing lines from Dekla and received support and feedback from the ladies.
September CharityBash Benefitting The Care Communities
On Sept. 21 from 7-10 p.m., join CharityBash at TenOak to donate to a vital Austin nonprofit, The Care Communities. This organization provides “practical and compassionate support, through volunteer Care Teams, for people living with serious illnesses such as cancer and HIV/AIDS,” so that “no one will have to face a serious illness alone.”
By taking patients to doctors appointments, providing them with meals and helping them with pets, among other things, The Care Communities’ Care Teams provide patients with compassion while allowing them to maintain the dignity they deserve.
Your $10 CharityBash donation will help this organization serve more people with serious illnesses who need support and companionship during these challenging times in their lives.
Third Annual CharityBash Live Auction Benefitting LifeWorks and CASA
On Nov. 10, the Third Annual CharityBash Live Auction will take place at KLRU’s Studio 6A, the original Austin City Limits set. The auction will feature 20 bachelors and bachelorettes, each representing a unique date package that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
This fundraiser has proven to be a hit with the CharityBash audience, donating $57,000 to SafePlace in 2009 and $75,000 split between the New Milestones Foundation, Imagine Art and Arc of the Capital Area in 2010.
This year, auction proceeds will be split between LifeWorks and CASA.
Through counseling, education and temporary housing services, local nonprofit LifeWorks provides Austin youth and families with the tools they need to overcome disadvantaged and unsafe situations to begin and sustain successful futures.
According to the website, LifeWorks offers “a safety net of support to more than 10,000 youth and families every year.”
CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, is an organization that recruits, trains and supports volunteers who represent “the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courtroom and other settings.”
Furthermore, because CASA volunteers stay with each case until its closure, “for many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant presence in their lives.”
At this event, expect to see impressive auction packages full of sports tickets, restaurant gift cards, spa packages and other exclusive perks to Austin hotspots. Tickets are $25 and include an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment.
