Infiniti has raised the bar since the debut of its FX line of crossover sport utility vehicles. I think this year’s FX series is one of the best yet. The styling and creature comforts of the interior are all top-notch.
For those of you who want a smaller SUV, or one that doesn’t look or drive like a minivan, Infiniti designers may have answered your prayers. The FX is a mid-sized luxury SUV with lots of exterior curves and unique styling.
This FX rides on huge wheels complemented by a sporty front grill, sleek lights and chrome accents along the sides.
Infiniti offers two versions: the FX35, which I tested, and the FX50. The FX35 gets you a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 300-plus horsepower.
The FX50 provides more kick with its 5.0-liter V8 that pumps out almost 400 horsepower. Smooth shifting is thanks to a seven-speed automatic with manual shift controls for a more seat-of-the-pants driving experience.
All-wheel drive is optional on the FX35 and standard for the FX50.
On the road, both versions are a pleasure to drive. This SUV sits high, which is a plus for me, even though its styling gives it a lower, sleek feel.
I really enjoyed this ride. It combines utilitarian needs with style and comfort.
