Mirador senior living community, currently under construction in the heart of south Corpus Christi, has named Cameron Fox as the fourth recipient of the 2009 Mirador Salute to Seniors Award.

The Mirador Salute to Seniors Award is presented quarterly to honor an individual who is making a difference in their community. Qualified nominees are active adults age 62 and above who volunteer their time and talents to their communities, and who also exemplify leadership, spirit, and citizenship.

“The Mirador Salute to Seniors program recognizes deserving senior volunteers and inspires others of all ages to be actively involved in giving back to their community,” said Wendy Gainan, director of sales and marketing for Mirador. “Mr. Fox is an inspiration and comfort to those who have experienced a stroke or have a loved one that has experienced a stroke. His kindness and generosity serve as an excellent example to us all.”

Fox began volunteering with the Corpus Christi Stroke Club in 1997 after he experienced a disabling stroke just before his 60th birthday.

“I planned to work for the rest of my life but my stroke changed my plans,” said Fox. “I was disabled completely for almost two years. I am extremely grateful to all those who helped me recover and I hope to do the same for others.”

For more than 10 years, Fox has served as president of the Corpus Christi Stroke Club. As president, Fox plans monthly meetings and creates a monthly newsletter to educate people about strokes and the Corpus Christi Stroke Club. In addition to his volunteer service with the Corpus Christi Stroke Club, Fox also spent many years as a volunteer for Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) for which he received a certificate of excellence from the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

“I get a lot of satisfaction from working with the Stroke Club,” said Fox. “It is rewarding to know that I am meeting a need and doing something good for others. I want people to know that, after a stroke, they can always continue to grow and improve.”

Fox resides in Corpus Christi with his wife of 35 years. Together they have one son.

Now under construction in the heart of south Corpus Christi, Mirador will be the area’s only all-inclusive life care senior living community. Designed to enrich the lives of seniors, Mirador will feature 25,000-square-feet of commons areas on a lush 17-acre campus at South Staples Street and Timbergate Boulevard. The gated community will include approximately 125 customized independent living apartment homes, each with a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, and 24-hour emergency response system, as well as 44 private assisted living suites, 41 private rooms for dignified nursing care, and 16 private residences for memory support.
