Morton’s is more than just a great steak house, itis a dinner experience that will leave you feelingsatisfied and in great spirits. This year, as part of Morton’s30th anniversary, the restaurant is teaming up withthe Make–A–Wish Foundation to grant 30 wishes to helpsave children with life–threatening conditions. Each wishcosts from $5,000 to $10,000.To help raise the funds, therestaurant will feature a specialprime sirloin burgeron Sunday nights from Julythrough September. Five dollarsof each hamburger entréesold will be donated to thefoundation.

The Make–A–Wish Foundationhas reached over 161,000children around the world since1980, making the foundation aworldwide success. Of all theunique wishes the foundationgrants, such as a weeklong shoppingspree at Macy’s and a vacationto the ICEHOT EL in Sweden, one of the simpler but stillamazing wishes was from twoSouth Texas brothers: Gilberto,11, and Juan Daniel, 9.

Unlike most youngsters, JuanDaniel and Gilberto have had tospend their playtime indoors. Both siblings have a very rare skin disease, epidermolysisbullosa, which has forced them out of the sunlightand heat. The strong Texas heat left the brothers confinedto their home, and also to their bedroom, whichwas the only (somewhat) air–conditioned room in theirhouse. The boys were offered a chance to have their wishgranted by the foundation of the Rio Grande Valley area.

Of all the things they might have lacked, the most importantwas air conditioning. The foundation, along with ateam of experts who installed AC throughout their home, granted their wish. Not only did the boys and their familyget the air conditioner they always dreamed of, they eachalso received their own little electronics headquarters, where they could share theirplaytime in air–conditionedcomfort.

This special off–the–menu burger, priced at$19.78, is called the ‘Morton’s& Make–A–Wish Prime SirloinBurger.’ But, it’s not justany burger –– it’s the burgerthat started it all. When Morton’sco–founders Klaus Fritschand Arnie Morton first workedtogether at the Playboy Club,Fritsch made his signaturehamburger and sent it out forArnie Morton to taste. Mortonproclaimed it the best hamburgerhe’d ever tasted. Fromthat day, they started the businesspartnership that has becomeMorton’s The Steakhouse. The famous burger is preparedwith fresh beef and topped withreal cheddar cheese and slicedmushrooms.

Thus far, Morton’s has raised $97,400 for the "30Wishes for 30 Years" campaign, and with its 79 restaurantsworldwide will continue to raise the proceeds forthis special cause for some very special children.

The Steakhouse is located on 849 E. Commerce Street, only one mile from the Alamo.
