SAOD continues to add new programming to its roster to meet the growing needs of our community. Two recent additions this fall are “Good Taste with Tanji Patton” and the 30th installation of everyone’s favorite talent show, “Our Part of Town.” These new additions are just some examples of the programs that keep you returning to SAOD Channel 988.
Keep the Family Fed with Food Ideas from Tanji Patton
An Emmy award-winning journalist, wine enthusiast and local celebrity, Patton brings local flavor to TV as she explores the world of food in her series, “Good Taste with Tanji Patton,” from working with master chefs to providing recipes for tasty dishes.
In an episode sure to have you craving paella, Patton gives you a behind-the-scenes look into the art of creating the Spanish dish. Filmed during the “Paella Competition” held at the historic Pearl Brewery, Patton follows various participants as they try their hand at this delicacy.
This episode features talented chefs from San Antonio, including Chef Johnny Hernandez of La Gloria, and chefs from across the nation. One nationally acclaimed chef in this episode, who also happened to win, is Chef Ben Ford of California, the son of Hollywood film star Harrison Ford.
In another episode, Patton exposes a treasure of the San Antonio Riverwalk: guacamole from renowned San Antonio restaurant Boudro’s. Viewers can tune in to “Boudro’s Riverboat” to learn how Patton prepares this popular dish while floating down the San Antonio River, which is sure to impress friends and family.
Another episode to keep the viewers excited is grilling tips from Bolner’s Meat Market. “Bolner’s Cabrito” features Patton visiting fourth-generation owned and operated Bolner’s Meat Market of South Flores Street. For more than a century, this meat market has prided its staff on being “the grilling experts of San Antonio.” These sizzling hints are guaranteed to heat up dinners and outdoor parties.
Displaying some of San Antonio’s best restaurants, Patton takes viewers to Stone Oak in the segment “Aldaco Stone Oak,” where Blanca Aldaco, owner of Aldaco’s, discusses her renowned margaritas and reveals her wonderful ceviche recipe. Viewers can find “Good Taste with Tanji Patton” in the travel category of SAOD Channel 988.
Watch San Antonio’s Most Talented Go Head-to-Head in Competition For 30 years, Time Warner Cable and the City of San Antonio’s Parks and Recreation Department have come together to promote the “Our Part of Town” talent show. The show, the brainchild of former San Antonio Mayor Henry G. Cisneros, began its run in 1980, and continues to be a huge hit within the community.
In 2004, the talent show became a staple of SAOD, making it possible for digital subscribers around the city to watch this showcase of talent from the comfort of their homes and giving them the control to replay the best performances on Channel 988 as many times as they want for free.
The talent show’s different divisions of competition, per city council district, are 12 years and under, 13 to 19 years old, 20 years and over and the recently added military category for military personnel on active duty.
Currently available on SAOD are previous finalists’ performances from the past five years of the competition. Past acts include country-western vocalists, hip-hop dance groups, bands, comedians and poetry recitations.
This year, the “Our Part of Town” talent show series is ready to light up the screen for its 30th anniversary. Contestants displaying their talent in vocal, dance and theatrical performances have earned a spot in the finals after competing in talent shows from one of the 10 city council districts during the summer, which are now available for viewing on Channel 988.
Time Warner Cable will bring the best acts the city has to offer to its digital subscribers on October 10, where contestants bring their talents to life at the Carver Community Cultural Center for the finals. Emceeing the event will be radio-TV personality Sonny Melendrez, a long-time supporter and former competitor in “Our Part of Town.”
With SAOD, many local competitions, including this one, can bring variety and personality to San Antonio’s homes. Be on the lookout for this year’s final competition on SAOD Channel 988 beginning Oct. 18, 2010.
