Boss Creative

The IT industry is full of young, talented people with a knack for catchy names and self-assured, contemporary style. But style only goes so far, and at some point there has to be some substance to back it up. Boss Creative, a San Antonio web design firm is that substantive company. Rapidly becoming one of the most innovative design companies in town, Boss Creative’s youthful exuberance and knowledge of the industry shine through every project, reflecting a commitment to good design and the success of their clients.

With two owners under the age of 30 and the other not yet 35, it’s hard to grasp the experience claim. But all three - Charles Pilkilton, Joe Flores and Peter Beshay – have been involved in business since their teens. Intuition, hard work, and faith have given them a sense of adventure and confidence. Their experiences have always been of the “sink or swim” variety, and they’ve all proven to be good swimmers. At any rate, they aren’t afraid to jump in. Now 12 strong, the Boss Creative team reflects the energy and synergy of the founders.

First and foremost, they do good work. They’ve put their design and online marketing expertise to work for clients around the country, including law firms, construction companies, doctors, online retailers, landscapers, artists, photographers and real estate firms. In all cases, the character and needs of the client predominate, but with a distinctive Boss touch. As Creative Director, Joe Flores makes sure every design coming out of Boss meets his exacting standards. “We’re in this business for one reason: to promote our clients’ businesses through strong web design, effective branding, and online marketing. We do that by giving them the best graphic design possible, using the most useful technology, and making sure their goals and personality shine through. If our clients aren’t happy with the finished product, we haven’t done our job,” says Flores.

Peter Beshay agrees: “We always put our clients’ needs as our top priority throughout the whole process. That’s why they come to us.” Overseeing all of Boss Creative’s projects from the sales and customer service standpoint, Beshay has talked with many clients who have had negative experiences with other companies, and were unsatisfied with their work. Boss goes a step further, always ready to suggest a customized solution the client hasn’t thought of before. The way Boss Creative sees it, clients make a significant investment when they hire a design company to create a logo, brand identity, or web site. The only way to get a return on that investment is to have it work for the business on multiple levels.

The developers at Boss Creative routinely go beyond the call of duty, creating custom Content Management Systems that allow clients to modify their own site content, and e-commerce sites tailored to specific needs, including complex inventory and product management systems, foreign language capabilities, shipping and information delivery systems. Development may be the more technical aspect of web design, but it requires just as much creativity. Likewise, online marketing incorporates traditional strategies with uniquely web-related techniques. One of Boss Creative’s latest passions is SEO – Search Engine Optimization. Charles Pilkilton has headed up this effort, and his face lights up when he talks about it.

“It’s just really cool when you see a client’s page rank go up, and you figure out the different elements that get them to the top of the search engines.” As Pilkilton explains it, SEO is a big, dynamic puzzle that involves coding, keywords, content, links, and other elements. They all work together in a dynamic system that changes daily, reflecting Internet user trends, new marketing techniques, and how search engines adapt to meet those changes. Pilkilton seems to love the challenge of figuring it all out, combining his intuitive talent for marketing with an intense fascination for the Internet.

Yet, the three owners are quick to point out they don’t do it alone. They’ve assembled a team of designers, developers, sales executives and copywriters that all contribute to Boss Creative’s success. That synergy is what attracted Danny Silva, Director of Business Development and an award-winning designer in his own right, to Boss Creative in the first place. Silva was doing well with his own business, but says he was attracted by the opportunity to join a team with goals aligned with his own. “I just saw they were poised for growth, and I was excited about working with a team on projects that were making the most of new media and marketing possibilities. There’s definitely a time and place for traditional advertising, but the Internet offers a whole new form that I think many businesses haven’t really tapped into.” For Silva and the rest of Boss Creative, successful business marketing hinges on technology, design, and innovation.

Synergy is a defining characteristic that has been there since the beginning. Flores and Pilkilton have been best friends since age19. Boss Creative grew out of Flores’ design work for the hotel keycard advertising company of which Pilkilton became a managing partner in 2000, using his business sense to work his way up from productions to CEO. Beshay met Flores and Pilkilton when they tried to solicit one of his design clients. “I originally came in to stake out my territory, but I was really knocked out by their work,” says Beshay. Flores says, “I just had this gut instinct about Peter. I immediately liked him and his business philosophy.” After working together on several successful projects, the three became partners.

It isn’t always easy, and the three point out that it’s only through the Grace of God, literally, that the business has survived their very different personalities. Says Pilkilton, “We’ve chosen to put God first, and we’re definitely seeing the rewards for that.” All three are active in their respective churches, donating a portion of all profits to charitable causes. Says Beshay, “It was our faith that brought us together in the first place, and bound our individual dreams together.” Now that Boss Creative is established, this sentiment means even more. “We’re really blessed. We’re having fun, creating success for our clients, and staying true to our faith, all at the same time.”
