After High School, Megan moved to Southern California where sheattended Westmont College, earning a degree in Political Science. A naturalself–starter and role model, Megan served as President of her collegeduring her senior year. After completingher degree and spendingsome time in Europe, Megan madethe decision to live in NashvilleTN, hoping to jumpstart a singingcareer. During that time shewas involved in the country musicscene and appeared in CountryMusic Artist Josh Turner’s musicvideo “What it Ain’t” on CMT. Shealso had a part in the independentfilm Something to Prove. However,it was her part–time job at aradio station that began her pathtowards national television. Fromthe radio station she earned herfirst television job reporting forTennessee Mornings on Fox 17.She also hosted numerous variety shows, including a teen show for Life–Way Christian Resources called Fuel.
In 2004, San Antonio beckoned Megan. She answered the call to becomethe morning traffic reporter, and one of the co–hosts of Great DaySA, the most popular morning show in South Texas on KENS5. “Beinga part of that show was a unique opportunity to meet the wonderfullyhospitable and diverse people of San Antonio,” Megan says. San Antonioembraced Megan as well and she has made lifelong friends in thistremendous city. “When I was thinking about moving here a friend toldme that I would not find another city quite like it; and they were right. Ihave never seen a city that is so excited about life. From the Spurs, to thetireless energy of city leaders and organizations, and I have never metpeople so invested in their city.” She was also pleasantly surprised to seepeople so involved in charities. “San Antonio has a very generous spirit.”Being host of Great Day SA allowed her to showcase the best and thebrightest in the city, something the show has become known for. “It wasa true honor to become a part of the fabric of this amazing city.”
Megan is particularly proud of a show she helped launch, produceand host, which was the KENS5 “Mi Casa Make–Over Show”. Like ExtremeHome Makeover, the crew would ‘flip’ houses in low–incomeneighborhoods. This legacy has been passed onto the new host of themorning show, Bridget Smith. “I was truly blessed by the selflessness ofour sponsors and the stories of our Mi Casa Winners. That is truly what‘love thy neighbor’ means.”
These days, Megan is a long way from San Antonio, but in many ways, her heart is still here. Her job as correspondent for Inside Edition meansshe flies all over the country and indeed the world talking to people fromall walks of life. She would not change that for anything. “I am definitelychallenged with my job, and living in New York City is quite the adventure.”One plus of her travels is that she recently returned from a trip toAlaska, where she interviewed Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin’sfriends and neighbors. She also sat down last month with Actor RobertRedford in Atlanta to do a story on Organ Donation. On any given day atwork she could be covering a story about politics, fashion trends or mostrecently, the economy. “I do enjoy the unpredictability of my day,” shesays. She also appreciates that the media can connect communities, bothlocally and nationally.
When she is not at work, Megancan be found spending timewith her husband, Brian. “We’veknown each other since we were 12years old!” she laughs. In fact theygrew up together in Seattle. Today,Brian owns a company called EdgeEntertainment, which produces avariety of events nationwide andcoordinates capital investment for agrowing chain of cellular accessorystores found in airports across thecountry. The two were active in theAlamo Heights United Methodistchurch in San Antonio, and actuallyflew Pastor Michael Crocker upto Seattle this past January to officiatetheir wedding. They are currently searching for a church in the NewYork area.
Megan is still active in supporting various charities. “My parentstaught me that it’s very important to give back to the community. Butthey didn’t just talk about it, they modeled it for me.” Megan continuesher work up in the New York Area for organizations like Girls Quest andthe Princess Project, and emcees numerous charitable events.
With her outgoing nature and laid–back style it is easy to see whypeople are drawn to Megan, and why she is so successful in her career. One reason for her success is her attitude towards her job. She acknowledgesthat it is more than a job, but a calling. “Every job is a mission field,”she says. “We should never limit what God can do through us in any career.”
