The Ridge is an exciting new entertainment venue that has recently completed on Loop 1604 in San Antonio. Many expect it to be the next big thing, the location promises to become one of the hottest shopping areas in San Antonio. For the developer, Jimi Ellis, The Ridge has serendipitously turned into a full fledge entertainment destination.
“The Ridge was initially designed to be office space upstairs and standard retail down stairs,” says Ellis, “But the location and the available rooftops became popular and before I knew it I had two rooftop bars: IVY and Area 31.”
Ellis believes the two new bars and an exciting new restaurant concept, The Yacht Club, will draw a lot of business to The Ridge.
“The rooftops at the IVY and Area 31 are going to be very popular because there are no real rooftop bars in San Antonio as of yet,” says Ellis. “There are several in Houston and Austin but none in San Antonio, soon we will have two of them at The Ridge.”
The Ridge started in June 2009 with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu studio and a Brazilian Capoeira studio, which is martial arts combined with dance, music and acrobatics. Since then many new businesses have started construction and many are near completion.
Miss Roxy Derek, a fashionable clothing boutique, is scheduled to open this month as well as a nutrition/smoothie shop called Juice Monkey. Both will complement the clientele from Flex Studio, a cross-training gym for men and women.
The Ridge will bring great entertainment for adults and kids alike, Ellis says. “Once (the bars and restaurant) came in, I started getting more interest from people in entertainment and fitness related uses,” the owner says.
A restaurant that’s kid friendly as well as promising great fun for adults, The Yacht Club will compliment The Ridge offering an outdoor patio, sand volley ball, and activities for kids. A new family dentist, Joshua Austin, DDS, and Pure Fun Kids, an establishment where kids can celebrate get-togethers and birthday parties, are new additions as well.
The Ridge is a 68,000-square-foot, two-story, retail/office property at 4553 N. Loop 1604 West. The end result of this project is an entertainment destination that provides people with more choices to have fun and meet friends in one of San Antonio’s hottest growth area.
And it is all within walking distance.
