Everyone wants a fit physique, but let’s be real! Howcan you tell the difference between the real deal andmyth? Many fitness myths cause you to be misled, underinformed,or even injured! The majority of the populationtakes something they read in a fitness magazine, or heardfrom a friend at the gym, to be 100% fact. So being a fitnessexpert, I have a duty to clear up the confusion that will saveyou time, headache, and potential pain.
Weight lifting is a key part of every fitness program. Thenumber one thing to realize when starting a weight loss programis that cardio alone will not bring about the desiredresults. Resistance training or weight lifting increases thelean tissue in the body, but as a result of each pound of leantissue added, you will up your daily calorie burn by 50 calories. So if you gain 10 pounds of leantissue but in transition, you drop 10pounds of fat you, will look muchleaner and toned as well as be 500calories more efficient on a daily basis. So does weight lifting make youbulky? Weight lifting can make youbulky if you are training in a fashionthat produces that result, but canalso be used to produce a trim andtoned physique!
Do I have to lift heavy weights toget results? Let’s face it, not all of us wantthe same results! Depending onyour fitness level, lifting heavy weights might not even bean option! Benching and lifting heavy weights is only a progressionfor those looking to gain mass.
If I want to drop weight do I have to cut calories? The bottom line when approaching a nutritional programis, DIETS DON’T WORK! Weight–loss has to be approachedin a realistic manner; if your weight–loss regimenisn’t realistic, it won’t last. So cutting calories in a nutritionalprogram isn’t always the answer. Diets can be a combinationof many variables including: calories, carbohydrates, sugars, lack of frequency, eating late, etc. If you simply cut caloriesyou could cause your body to go into survival mode, whichin turn will cause you to gain weight. Because you simplyaren’t getting enough nutrients for your body to functionproperly, your body holds onto fat stores to help you survive.
Does proper form and program structure have any correlationto my results? When starting a weight lifting program, remember thatproper form and structure are essential. Lifting weightswithout form and structure will only lead to injury! So whenyou begin a fitness program, remember you need to workthe bigger muscle groups (Chest, Back, Quadriceps, Hamstrings)first before moving to the smaller muscles (Biceps,Triceps, Calves, Forearms). Also you need to structureyour weekly program so that you will efficiently work eachmuscle group while also getting adequate recovery time. Agood rule of thumb is the bigger the muscle group the morerest is needed. Chest and back, for instance, being biggermuscles need three to four days to recover, where arms andabs could only take one to two days.
Will the workout routine in magazines work best forme? The bottom line when reading fitness magazines is thatthe workouts featured are not for the general public. Theyare workouts that professional athletes perform. So whenreading articles and routines in these magazines, you mustbe able to decipher whether or not your health and fitnesslevel are able to handle the routine you’re putting yourselfthrough. Second, each person is completely different whenapproaching a fitness program. Each person’s starting point, goals, medical conditions, strengthsand weaknesses separate them frombeing able to do everything in thesame way. In order to get started, youneed to get the proper guidance froma fitness expert.
Should I take one of those weightlosssupplements? Look at the name itself, “supplements”.These will only be beneficialafter you consistently work out andeat properly. No matter what supplementyou take, if you are not alreadyinvolved in a well rounded fitnessprogram, you will only tax your vitalorgans and produce little to no results. If you are activelyparticipating in a health and fitness program then you mustunderstand that the vast majority of supplements on themarket are useless. I firmly stand behind the natural approachbecause of the fact that there is no regulating agencyfor the supplement industry.
In your pursuit to attaining the fit and toned physique, understand that there are truckloads of information, bothgood and bad, so always consult with a fitness expert beforestarting any program.
