One year strong

Alamo Hospice is celebrating the first anniversary of our affiliation with NSIDE M.D. A perfect time to say thank you to the magazine and all of our wonderful referral sources for making this last year so great. We also want to thank all of our families, patients and caregivers who have opened their homes and allowed us to be part of this season in their lives. We are truly blessed and privileged to share in caring for each of you and appreciative of the way we have been accepted into San Antonio’s medical community. We feel very privileged to partner with some of the city’s most respected physicians and institutions in providing high quality end of life care.

For the last year we focused our contributions to NSIDE M.D. on uncovering hospice. Many of you have thanked us for those articles and expressed how helpful they have been in explaining what hospice is all about.

This year we want to add some new elements. Because we are a local company with our roots deeply entrenched in San Antonio, we want to uncover Alamo Hospice for you. To do that, we would like to introduce you to the stories and journeys of our team members. We have a wonderful group of dedicated caregivers, led by Dr. Leo Edwards, Medical Director; and Dr. Joe Gonzalez, Associate Medical Director. In coming issues, we’ll highlight these two unique native San Antonians, each extraordinary in his own way.

In another issue, we’ll introduce you to our C.E.O., Gary Merchant. His extensive and successful background in hospice is one of the driving forces behind our success. His philosophy of patient care, employee recognition, and sound financial operations will provide you with insight into our patient–centered culture. His approach to guiding end of life care will be very instructive and open a window into all that a well–managed and responsible hospice program can contribute to our community.

Our amazing clinical team is led by Vice President and Director of Clinical Services, Erin Adkins, a gifted and compassionate leader. Her high standards define our strong commitment to patient advocacy. You will enjoy her story and learn through her how a deep commitment to quality initiatives in our program lays the foundation for the wonderful care we provide.

As you are introduced to our team, the elements of great end of life care will begin to unfold. It’s a combination of vision, compassion, dedication, expertise and wisdom. Our desire is that through these stories, you’ll have the opportunity to sample the threads of fabric that a great hospice team weaves together, to guide those facing the end of life’s journey.

Along the way, we hope to provide you a glimpse into the life of Alamo Hospice and introduce you to others on our team and in the community, who are an intregal part of our organization. In one issue, you’ll meet one of our patients and a dedicated caregiver, who will encourage and inspire you with their story.

We want to continue to uncover hospice and be a resource for your questions and calls. Again, thank you for the privilege of being part of San Antonio’s wonderful medical community. I look forward to introducing Dr. Edwards to you next issue.
