Hispanic Medical Professionals is a non-profit organization created with the mission to unite medical providers and facilitate communication and collaboration with each other to better serve the community and to create a platform for a strong efficient network in the San Antonio medical community.

Maria Olveda, the organization's founder, had the idea of creating an organization made up of professionals who could donate their time in helping and guiding our youth as they journey through a medical career path. As we reflect on the Hispanic Medical Professionals' accomplishments of this past year and set our goals for very successful and fulfilling years to come, it is now time to acknowledge the generous gifts of time and effort provided by the members of our board as well as the expertise and hard work of the organizations directors.

Our organization focuses on serving the community by providing scholarships to enthusiastic students who have the desire to further their education to become successful and assertive in the medical field, create access to health care for all Hispanics, and increase the number of Hispanic physicians in our community. Our board members serve as role models and facilitators for Hispanic students interested in careers in the medical field.

Last year Hispanic Medical Professionals celebrated their gala with an unsurpassed attendance and great camaraderie in honor of the six students chosen to receive scholarships. The association is grateful for the efforts as well as the generous donations from its sponsors/benefactors as this made the aspirations of both students and professionals come to life.

Mike Lopez, the master of ceremony, opened the festivities and introduced the distinguished honorees of the evening. The evening was creatively started with entertainment where all the invites enjoyed themselves and had the pleasure of associating with board members as well as the students who earned the scholarships. This was followed by a delightful dinner and a magnificent fashion show, in which some of the members and sponsors showed their enthusiasm by participating as models. The gala was closed with the presentation of the scholarships to our medical professionals of the future.

One of the benefits these young adults receive is being mentored by the board members. The board does this for our triumphant scholars with the goal to increase the number of Hispanic medical professionals serving our community.

Our focus is to assist and support young adults by guiding them on the difficult transition from high school to college and by emphasizing the importance that the career they are about to pursue has for our community.

The board members of the Hispanic Medical Professionals have been proud to support and sponsor the success of our young adults who pursue a career in our society. In a world where tough situations are beginning to arise, the Hispanic Medical Professionals members hope to put in their little grain of sand to create a better tomorrow for the newer generations.
